And on another note I hope everyone has a wonderful spooky Halloween filled with fun, candy and for the adults drinks! Cheers to the start of a fun filled weekend!
I love a white shirt and jeans. It's the easiest thing to put together. I found this adorable picture of a white loose sweater, dark skinny jeans and little tan booties. Easy to wear anywhere. I don't own a lot of long sleeved sweaters because ummmm Florida gets all of maybe 3 weeks of cold weather a year. It's kind of depressing. I love the cold and crisp weather and it's just not something Florida has to offer. Anyways I want this outfit and I found in my closet something that totally works.
I used a white large short sleeved top that has the same feel as the sweater. The boots are almost the same (mine even has embroidery on the side!) and dark jeans pull the whole look together. I also added a cuff bracelet to match the models cuff.
So not exactly the same, but I think my large white top with gray cuffs works. I love that I can wear this while out running errands! I am all for quickly throwing an outfit together and with these pieces I feel like I look pulled together. My October Challenge has come to a close with this last post. I am so glad I learned to use the clothes I already have to make so many outfits I didn't even know I had! I'll be posting more on what changed in my shopping perspective next week!
And on another note I hope everyone has a wonderful spooky Halloween filled with fun, candy and for the adults drinks! Cheers to the start of a fun filled weekend!
Over last weekend we went to a FL pumpkin patch. It started out at a nice 60 degrees and quickly escalated to 80. Pumpkins were placed around a tree to pick out. I'm not complaining, but I miss a real patch on a nice crisp Fall day drinking hot coffee, cocoa or apple cider while having to walk through a misty field covered in pumpkins. Ah, some day. It was still fun to see Sophia point and run to every pumpkin and say "I want this one!" only to run to the next one and say the same thing. She totally is loving Halloween, which is so fun to see! Amelia tried to taste the hay, pumpkins and anything that was in arms length would go straight to the mouth. (we are working on building up her immune system) :) Anyway here are some pictures of our little adventure at "the patch".
Hugs for Mommy and Daddy! She would clap her hands and say "this is so exciting!"
We tried to get one good family picture and then this happened. I think it was so overwhelming from people and loud music and the heat that our biggest little girl just wasn't having it. Nothing like capturing the moment though....
There was a kid station where you could paint a pumpkin and this turned the freak out/tantrum around! Since Sophia is a little Monet she was in her element making a pumpkin masterpiece! After the painting it was time to head home for naps and rests and get ready for the next adventure. Pumpkin carving.
And someone was super excited about carving a pumpkin!! Seriously this girl is this smiley all of the time! And the next pictures speak for themselves. We started out with a shirt and high hopes (Sophia's) of carving "all by myself" and we worked our way to tears (no carving a face by yourself) and topless.
The tears were starting.
Being naked calms anyone down right?!? We had so much fun and I feel so proud of myself and my husband for making these memories for our kids to have later on in life. (despite the tantrums, cries, diaper changes and time constraints that come with a 3 year old and almost 6 month old) I love this little family of mine.
Hope everyone has a week of Halloween fun!
I am all for easy breakfasts around here, but sometimes I just want to make a special morning Fall treat. These French Toast Sticks are super easy and taste just like Fall! (if Fall time ever had a taste)
This weekend we kicked the colds to the curb and were able to go to the Pumpkin Patch. (pictures to come later) Seeing Sophia know what Halloween and Pumpkins are all about is so much fun. She just ran around grabbing pumpkins (or trying to because she always wanted the HUGE ones) and calling out this one! I want this one at home!
To add to our Fall themed Pumpkin Patch weekend I made these for a special breakfast treat. I love the ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg combined. It smells so good in the house when you are frying these!
We carved our pumpkins we picked out and I baked the pumpkin seeds. I tried a new recipe and sprinkled cinnamon and sugar all over them. So good. Sophia kept running to the kitchen and very very quietly would sneak little handfuls to eat. They are a perfect little Fall treat!
French Toast Sticks
5 slices of bread
1/2 cup almond milk
2 Tablespoons flavored creamer
1/8 cup melted coconut oil
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 pinches ground ginger
dash of salt
Mix together in bowl. Heat frying pan to medium heat. Cut bread into slices ( I did 3 slices for each piece of bread) Dip bread into egg mixture and fry both sides in pan until golden brown. Serve warm with syrup, honey or powdered sugar.
Sophia loves dipping these in her own little honey bowl and using her fingers to eat instead of a fork. Normally we don't let her pick at her food with her fingers so this is a special forbidden treat! :) Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!
Slowly slowly in FL the weather gets cooler. In the evening it's cool enough where I can pull out these leather bad boys and wear them without breaking a sweat. I found this picture on Pinterest and realized that as I am not one to wear heels I can put on some cute loafers and get the same type of look! Chambray goes with anything and is the most diverse shirts I own. I have had this shirt in my closet for two years now and I love it! Since I have shed some of the baby weight it fits again and I can add it into my repertoire of clothing! I love this casual yet sophisticated look.
I am so excited that I found these leather legging! I first got a pair at Forever21 for $8 but lost some weight and they became too big. I was on the hunt for another more expensive pair because I realized how much I love leather. I finally found a pair a while back at a second hand store for $8. They are Express leggings and retail at $90. Seriously you cannot go wrong with thrifting. I love the ease of this outfit (minus the heels unless I really want to jazz it up for a date night)
This little one wanted to make an appearance in my post as she woke up right when I was finishing the pictures. I had to include it because how cute are babies right when they wake up???
So glad to be able to pull this outfit out of my closet! I really enjoy seeing what I have hanging in my closet and how I don't need to go out and buy clothes to make new outfits! One more week until my shopping hiatus ends!
On another note I can't wait for the weekend. A few things I'm looking forward to... One. Pumpkin Patch time! Can't wait to get the annual cheesy pumpkin patch family picture. Two. Finishing up our Halloween Costumes. We are going as Superheros! Three. Four day weekend with the hubby! Yeah for extra help! Hopefully we will kick the colds we have to the curb before all our long weekend shenanigans happens. Hope everyone has a fabulous fall weekend!
Life just seems to fly by. With my first I felt like I was there for every moment. I was though. She wanted to be rocked to sleep every nap and at bedtime. She would wake up at least once a night until 18 months and I would feed and rock her back to sleep. People always wonder if babies are born with personalities or they are made throughout their life. I know both my babies have personalities from the time they are born. I have no idea how it works, but Amelia is one of the calmest little babies ever. I have had the privilege of being a mommy to a high needs baby and now to a happy self soothing baby. I feel sometimes I am missing out on Amelia because she doesn't like to be rocked to sleep at night and really will cry because she wants to get down on the floor and roll around by herself! Having a busy 3 year old helps things fly by pretty quick as well. Here are some pictures documenting our life in the last few weeks.
I wanted to include the top three things that happened over the weekend. One. The hubs and I were able to see Gone Girl. I read the book and since books and movies aren't entirely the same at times, I wasn't sure how the movie would go. The movie was exactly as the book. I loved the book and actually loved the movie even more actually. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike were amazing together! If you have the opportunity to see it you won't be disappointed.
Two. I made it to JoAnn Fabrics. I love just looking around and getting new ideas for projects, but with two kids in tow it's usually straight to fabric then the cutting board and I'm outta there. I was able to go by myself this weekend. I never thought going somewhere by myself would be like entering the gates of heaven, but getting out by myself I sometimes think I can hear the angels sing. Aaaahhhhhhhhh aaaahhhhhhh!!!
Three. The weather has been cooling down (hello mid 80's) so we've been able to actually spend time outside! So nice to not break a sweat as soon as the door opens! Our neighborhood was having a garage sale so I was able to take the girls on a walk and let Sophia pick out some toys and books for herself!
Totally enjoyed my weekend however it was gearing me up for Monday because that was one for the books.
I had pinned this picture not long ago.(before I started my October challenge) I love the colors and the simplicity of this outfit. The day I pinned this picture I found a sweater the following day at a thrift store. Perfection at 3.99 is at its best! Seriously I could not be luckier when thrifting sometimes. I had all these items before my October challenge and I could not be any happier with this outfit!
Peach sweater. Check. Black jeans. Check. White V neck t shirt and long turquoise necklace. Double check. No beanie because we are in FL. Maybe for the winter months I'll find one.
I think this is my favorite outfit. The sweater is one of my best finds at a thrift store. I mean having all the same pieces as the model does and knowing I only spent about $12 on the whole outfit?? Speechless. That sweater the model is wearing cost $40 all by itself. I have been much happier with my clothes and have been realizing some things about my shopping that I will share when the month is up! Have you ever matched a magazine/models outfit before?
With Fall here and really Winter around the corner (filled with Holiday gatherings) I have put together some hairstyles that I want to try or have tried! I love doing new things with my hair and love it even more when it's super easy to do. A quick little braid or twist can change up a simple hairstyle and make it more interesting. Here are a few styles that I found on Pinterest that I love!
A loose half up half down style. Super cute and way easy to do. Adding in a little hair clip would be super cute! Style found here.
Another way to do a loose half up with a braid. Found here.
Half french braid to the side and side braid tucked in. A little bit more time consuming but totally worth the effort. I've done an upside down french braid before and it's not too hard. Just flip your hair over and braid it while your head is down! Found here. Tutorial on upside down french braid found here. All you would do is just keep the braid going sideways!
Another way to do a side french braid. I actually did this last weekend when I went to an Oktoberfest celebration. I added a low bun in back and loved it! I had a some people come up and tell me how much they loved the style. It took less than five minutes to do! Found here.
I love this idea! It's like three ponies all combined together! This would be easy to do with short hair as well as you could just combine your hair into two ponies instead of three. Found here.
Two side braids straight back into a long pony. Effortless to do! Found here._
And of course the wave. I do this hairstyle so much. It's so easy to just use a curling iron and do light waves throughout the hair. If I am short on time I just curl the top layer and run my fingers through my hair so it gives the illusion of waves. Found here.
I love this super short wavey hair idea! Add a little twist to the front of you hair and pin behind your ear! Found here.
And for the last yes that is me. I did this based off of this picture. I have very thick hair so it was easier for me to to two buns.I wanted to add a little bow embellishment to the style for some extra oomph.I started with doing a french braid on either side and then rubber banded to pony tails in the back and pinned them into two buns. It only took 10 minutes to do!
I love trying out new things to do with my hair! Do you try new hairstyles or do something to spice up your hair? What's your go to hairstyle?
Nothing like starting out the week back on a schedule. Amelia started her normal sleeping routine last Thursday and it's been wonderful ever since! I do not envy those sleepless newborn nights and so thankful my little one is a great sleeper! (most of the time) I have so much more energy when I get a full nights sleep so since the littlest Maldonado is back to her miracle sleeping self I have been busy making Fall decorations for the house! I love putting up decorations around the house for the seasons and holidays. Fall time is my favorite time of year and I wish we could experience those crisp fall days here in FL, but since I can't I put little decorations around the house to help remind us that we are in the Fall season. I made all these and it was super easy and cheap. The links are at the bottom of the page.
1. Kids Fall Banner. I used my own tutorial you can see here. I got the fabric at JoAnn's on sale and think it's so cute for the girls' bathroom!
2. Pumpkin Painting found here. This teaches you how to actually paint a pumpkin!
3. Burlap Banner. I used my own tutorial. I bought the burlap at JoAnn's and love that I can use it for Thanksgiving too!
4. BOO found on Etsy here. Doesn't show how to make it but I bought the letters at JoAnn's and painted them how I wanted. I used twine and wrapped it around each letter and hung it up. Super easy to do and saved myself a ton of money!
5. Spider Wreath found here. Again super easy just took a glue gun and those Dollar Store Spiders and a foam wreath. Very cheap and didn't take more than 1/2 hour to do.
6&7. Pumpkins around the house add a festive Fall time feel! I wanted to set the pumpkins on something, but didn't have any stands big enough for them so for something different I pulled out silver platters and used them! I think they might look better with white pumpkins so while we are making our trip to the pumpkin patch tomorrow I'll be picking some up! What are some of your favorite Fall decorations? Hope everyone has a great start to the week!
Every Friday for the month of October I am putting an outfit together from clothes that I already own in an attempt to match an outfit I would like to have off of Pinterest. ( you can follow me here on Pinterest) My idea is that since I have a closet full of clothes I shouldn't need to buy any new ones. Makes sense. No clothes will be bought during this month which will force me to use what I already own. You can see the post that started it all here. So here is another look I love that I already had in my closet. I just didn't know it until now.
Cuffed distressed denim jeans a gray slouchy sweater and birkenstocks. Perfect for cooler weather.
I actually bought this gray sweater when I was still pregnant with Amelia. I wasn't able to wear it until now. When I saw this outfit on Pinterest I saw the gray sweater would work perfectly! These cuffed jeans are so comfy. They are the ones I have had for years and years and I'll never get rid of them . The birkenstocks I got from my family for my birthday this year. Awesome present! They are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. (thinking about buying another pair since I love them so much) This is an easy, comfy outfit to wear. It totally works for me as a mommy and I still feel stylish!
So I need to get something off my chest from this last week and weekend. Let's start with last Monday. Amelia has been a miracle sleeper. She has slept 6+ hours a night since she was born. I know. I'm lucky. I shouldn't complain at all, but I am. This last week my child has woken up anywhere from 3-6 times a night. I know this is typical from day 1 and trust me I have put in my share of sleepless nights from my first. (she didn't sleep through the night until 18 months) I say God knew I put in my time with my first and He felt sorry for me so provided me with one of those "miracle sleeping babies" the second time around. Well, this last week has seriously been rough. My patience is thin and the reality is my days are full of coffee and cartoons. I am not a "cry it out" mama so now it's not just fulfilling the demands of a five month old and three year old during the day, but now night time has been added into our repertoire. It's tough. I love my two girls and am so glad to be their mama. Some days or weeks it's just tougher than others. This too shall pass is my new mantra. This past weekend my husband captured a photo of the three of us cuddling and laughing on the couch. I love them more than anything and would do anything for them, including get up numerous times to comfort them.
Onto the second rant. Last weekend I went through mine and my hubbys closet again and had more stuff to get rid of. I was going to wait to take it into a consignment store to try and sell the stuff, but because the piles were overtaking our route to the bathroom I needed to get it done. My last post talked about my October challenge (you can see it here) so this was going to be hard for me. I was going into a store that I love to shop at and not be able to buy anything. At all. I could do this. Walking up to the store with my four bags to sell I was greeted with a All New Clearance at 50% Off sign. Seriously?!? And walking in there are the racks. Right in front. Anyone I'm sure realizes in any type of challenge you do don't tempt yourself. If you're on a strict diet don't go to a chocolate store. Didn't follow that. Before I drove to the store I gave myself a pep talk and told myself NOT TO BROWSE. I should sit in a chair and play my level 175 of Candy Crush. Didn't follow that either. Fall time weather brings beautiful soft leather jackets, structured blazers and colorful sweaters to buy. If you are looking for any of these I have a store for you. I tried them on and held onto them. I ended up putting everything back. I walked out of the store richer. No not in the way of yes I didn't buy myself anything....they had bought some of my clothes I had brought in. When I got home I looked at my clothes hanging in my closet and realized how much I own. I have so much when other people have so little. I am thankful I can choose what I want to wear and that's what this month of not adding to my already full closet is all about. Taking the time to realize how blessed I am and how I can be content with what I already have.
I'm happy today is Monday and going forward I know this is going to be one awesome week. (hopefully filled with sleepfull nights)
